My first show at ILM was Bond: Spectre. I’d never expected to work on a Bond show, so it was a very welcome surprise. We were making this film at the same time as Episode VII, and I found that with all the buzz that was generating, Bond had a wealth of really beautiful shot work up for grabs to the first person to clean their plate - so I decided that would be me.
Our work focused on the opening sequence of the film. As a team we worked on building Mexico city from drone footage and street photography, we then used a lot of photogrammetry from set for the props and layed it all out. It was slow and methodical work, but as soon as it was done, it opened the doors for myself and one other to Light and run out all the shots of the helicopter beats.
Additionally there was augmenting Bond’s death defying rooftop walk, where adding to the crowd, the props in the square and removing parts of the set to make it seems even more extreme were done.
